Picnics, gelato, oysters and other excellent life decisions.
Hello Friends!
Last night was a first for me: I went to bed with an ice pack in an attempt to stay cool. I mean that in the physical sense because, unfortunately, that other ship has sailed. For your information, it started off fine but ended a bit of a mess. Worth a go though, right?
For most of us, this kind of heat demands a different rhythm. Rise early (sorry PicanteMeg!), find somewhere cool to work, rest in the middle of the day and, most importantly, eat late and alfresco. |
 | Of course, we're lucky enough to live by the sea. And when the city feels tropical, nothing beats a picnic on the beach (a better use for that ice pack?) You may not even have enough in the tank to pack your own picnic. If that’s you, here are a few of our favourite spots for a beach-ready feast:
- Bayon Bakery – BRAVO's Best Sweets & Treats and an absolute picnic winner
- At The Table – deli, wine and provisions; delicious and couldn't be easier
- Open Bakery – pies, tarts, savouries, sandwiches and seriously good cake
- Earl's Sandwiches – legendary bánh mì. What more could you need?

At times like these, I'm not above making ice cream the main event. Right now I'm dreaming of the Tarte Tropézienne gelato collab between Boho Gelato and Julien Plumart (there's also an Irn-Bru sorbet for the Scots), while Maddy from Dilsk insists the PX Pedro Ximénez flavour is the one to beat. CallumInBrighton has some great recos too. |
Not a fan of a three-scoop supper? Our top tip this week is The Brighton Oyster Festival. Some of the city's finest venues are serving an oyster snack and bubbles (or a non-alcoholic alternative) for £15. We’d recommend a crawl but go easy on the booze – it hits harder in this heat. |

The grand finale takes place at English's on Sunday 28 June from 3pm–4.30pm with the oyster shucking competition. Spectators can enjoy half a dozen oysters for just £6, with all proceeds going to Martlets. The winner will represent Brighton at the London Oyster Championships in September. Best of luck! |

Our sustainability workshop at Sea Lanes was all about sharing stories, and our show-and-tell session gave venues the chance to talk about the sustainable changes they're proud of. It's genuinely inspiring to see how many creative adaptations local businesses are making. |
 | Brittany’s just back from camping at Woodfire (watch her reel here). Emma had a fabulous stay at Morley's Bistro, with a Spanish dinner in the garden with wine pairings from the ever-knowledgeable Luca Dagos. Meanwhile, I indulged in a cheeky lunchtime spritz on the terrace at The Metropole Bar.
Last night I finally got to try the new menu at The Salt Room and can confirm it was absolutely worth the wait. Blog incoming. Next up: BRAVOS Best Sunday Roast 2025 and 2026 at Embers. Expectations are sky-high (no pressure!)
Jude and I have also been congratulating ourselves on surviving GCSE season. Well done us. And them, of course. If you're a few years ahead of us and looking for somewhere to celebrate graduation, we've got plenty of special menus and offers coming your way over the next few weeks.
Yours, beach bound,
Hannah & Team RB
