Hello Brighton, Hove and Sussex!

First there was summer, and now the Summer Holidays. Children or not, the start of the school holidays changes the pace of life for everyone. The key to it all is don’t get hangry, stay hydrated, and adjust your expectations. Holidays - home or away - are in the air and must be embraced. Hannah is the first of team RB to take leave of these shores, and while she is in actual France, the rest of us decided to see what French fancies we could find here at home.

Laissez les bons temps rouler (let the good times roll)

To kick off in great fashion, Cecily did a rather excellent round-up for kids and holidays last week, and Amex have big fun plans for August.

Steffan and his wife enjoyed a lunch à deux (as they say) at Le Flamant in Lindfield, where “The sophistication of sauces continued as the most notable theme in every dish that followed… but the one that draped itself over the halibut was really a masterclass for a saucier.”

A foodie love letter to France

Even more French favourites:

Petit Pois – nothing petite about the full-force Frenchness here.
Bistro du Vin – classic French cooking and a corking wine list to match.
Mange Tout – bright, seasonal, and unmistakably continental.
Paris Wine Bar – a relaxed spot with plenty of vin and some delicious cocktails.
Cases – a hidden gem in Hove with Gallic charm and very good cheese.
Open Bakery – French boulangerie goodness.

So much deliciousness

When not tasting the world on our doorstep, we’ve been doing what we do best: eating, drinking, talking to people, and figuring out which Brighton pub to head to this Sunday to cheer on the Lionesses in the final against Spain. If you haven’t made a plan yet, our where to watch football in Brighton guide has you covered. Jude chatted to Chef Kanthi for The Dish and Brittany popped into Baked Hove. Hannah managed to squeeze in dinner with her brother at Il Bistro (AND write it all up, might I add) before leaving for her travels.
