Maré earns a Michelin star, BRAVO voting is open, and your week-ahead hit list is here.
Hello Friends!
Usually I’ve got a clear idea of where to start, but I’m going to be straight with you – I’m lost in a maze of almost edible excitement. Let’s find our way out together. |
Maré by Rafael Cagali has been awarded one Michelin star just six months after opening. With a menu reflecting Cagali’s Brazilian-Italian heritage, delivered by his talented protégé, Chef Ewan Waller, Maré brings something completely fresh to the city – as well as the first star to be awarded in Brighton & Hove for 50 years. Huge congratulations. |
Whichever way you look at it, next week’s a big one. Take a deep breath – this is the top-level stuff:

A few nights ago, I was lucky enough to celebrate the reopening of Shelter Hall after its midwinter makeover. Amongst other tasty treats, I tried the new Portuguese BBQ kitchen, Churrasco (from the team behind Salt Shed) – a smoky, generous, crowd-pleaser.
Meg soaked up the ambience (and the pub classics) at The North Star – read her write-up here. Meanwhile, Brittany gushed over the poulet rôti she shared with friends at game-changer, Plateau. Here’s what she had to say.
With half term around the corner, I’m dusting off the raclette kit, gearing up for a serious Winter Olympics binge and, ideally, a glass of Alpine wine chosen by (fellow ski fan) Anna at Fourth & Church. See you on the other side.
Yours, with a swish,
Hannah & Team RB
